What's your name? Melissa

How old are you? 41

Where are you from? I'm German but my parents left Germany when I was a baby and I ended up living mainly in Asia and other countries unitl I was grown.

What is your background? Before returning to my home country 10 years ago I spent 8 years in Sierra Leone West Africa where my husband and I opened an Association helping bring education to schools and children from underpriviledged families.

In a few sentences, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do? I'm a housewife primarily (as a mom to 6 active teens/children) and support my husband as he is studying to become a General Practitioner. On the side I work part time as a private English Teacher in Kindergartens/schools and peoples' homes, plus as a translator and hostess at the International Exhibitions in Colgone and Düsseldorf.

What are you currently doing for hair health and care? I believe that eating healthy is one of the most important things you can do for your hair as I think it's not so much what you put onto your hair as what you put into your body that makes the biggest difference.

Are you using any natural hair products (if yes, what are they and what do you like or not like about them? Honestly, I really don't do that much for my hair. I've never dyed my hair using anything but Henna to cover my grey hairs and add a bit of red color.

What works well for you and what doesn't? I try my best to only wash my hair once a week as my hair tends to get oily quicker when I wash it more. I don't use any special products only a rather cheap (but free from alot of extra chemicals) shampoo from our local grocery store. I never use any conditioner as I've never needed it. I also very seldomly go to a hair dresser as I find that cutting my own hair or having one of my girls trim it has worked so far. Plus it saves on costs!

What do you like about your hair and what has taken some time for you to accept about your hair? Hmmmm, when I was younger I lived in Asia and I was always surrounded by girls with long, black, thick hair and sometimes I was annoyed that my hair was so fine, a bit wavy and never could get that long. I think with time I've just learned to accept that we are all so different and that my hair is actually good enough as it is.

What are some helpful tips you can share with other readers? Love the hair you've been given, try to stay away from unnatural products and have fun with your hair too! Sometimes I like trying out a new hairstyle just to spice things up a bit. The fact that I have 5 girls I get to have a lot of fun doing different hairstyles and experiementing on them, even doing old fashioned things like ''Ragcurls' occasionally.

Please share something different, interesting, or funny about yourself? As a side job/hobby I preform at events, parties, birthdays etc. I've been singing and playing guitar since I was a kid and have continued playing and learning new songs 'till now, I even learned how to play the ukulele a couple years ago. I love that I can make a little money from it plus enjoy it as a therapy for myself and family.
