How old are you? 42

Where are you from?
San Diego, California

What is your background?
My family is from southern California, but I’m a third culture kid and grew up in SE Asia.

In a few sentences, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
I’m currently a People Operations department of one for a San Diego startup. I have two boys (6 and 18) and a puggle. I would have a hard time living without live music and trail running! I have an amazing group of friends and am very grateful for my life and my spot in the world.

What are you currently doing for hair health and care? I have curly hair so have to be careful with it. I do a coconut oil treatment once a week to keep it soft and manageable. I never brush it, just use conditioner after shampooing and run my fingers through it to get the tangles out. I just started using a “no-poo” co wash by Hair Story and so far love the product!

Are you using any natural hair products (if yes, what are they and what do you like or not like about them)? Yes, I love my coconut oil treatment once a week. I warm up the oil and use my fingers to distribute it throughout my hair. I’ll leave it in while I go for my run and wash it out when I get home.

What works well for you and what doesn’t?
Brushing is terrible for my hair, it makes it really frizzy. Also I try not to use any heat on it at all. I basically just co-wash it, put in a serum, scrunch my curls with a damp towel and let it air dry.

What do you like about your hair and what has taken some time for you to accept about your hair?
I went through a time where I hated having curly hair and fought it a lot and it really didn’t work out. I’ve now come to appreciate my curly hair and learned that working with it, not against it works so much better.

What are some helpful tips you can share with other readers?
If you have curly hair, learn to love your curls and be kind to them. They will be kind to you. Try and stay away from straighteners and curling irons. The curly girl approach really works!
